KNOW AND WEAR YOUR PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE)

Personal protective equipment or called PPE and it’s the last choice in the hierarchy of control in every aspect of safety. The question of for today is safety talk is an easy one.  Is Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) important to the workers this day or otherwise?

There was a time in hockey when goalies faced the puck without the benefit of a mask. No front teeth and hundreds of stitches on his face and head after twenty-one years in the league. Than there was an introduced of the facemask for goalies is applied. Now most goalies retire with an unscarred face and a full set of teeth. Pro sports players know the value of PPE because they know the risks.  You rarely see them play without protection.  But how often do you see workers not wearing proper PPE on the job?  Too often!  And just as often, their teammates and fellow workers just let it pass without comment.

Even though the risk of serious injury is often higher – loss of hands, loss of sight, even loss of life – workers on the job take PPE less seriously than football players, racing car drivers and hockey players.  The real pros wear their PPE.

  • Now let’s try and ask your workers these basic questions about PPE and see the result

  • What percentage of workers who suffered an eye injury was not wearing eye protection?

  • From those workers who did suffer eye injury while wearing eye protection, what percentages

    were wearing the wrong kind?

  •       The number of foot or toe injuries among the workers?
From the result we can know what the rate of the worker knowledge is or result in Personal Protective Equipment. From the result also no that if the workers needed a training or not. Last but not least, take a lesson from the real pros.  Wear your Personal Protection Equipment at all times, and speak up if you see a fellow worker ignoring procedures or leaving their PPE in the locker.

Be a pro, Take safety seriously, and it’s your personal responsibility.
