BEWARE OF TENNIS ELBOW

Tennis elbow or also known as lateral epicondyle is an inflammation or pain on the outer side of the elbow. It may be a partial tear of the tendon around the elbow which connects muscle to the bone. Cause of the tearing of the tendon fiber near the elbow overuse of the muscle in the forearm attaches to the bone on the outside of the elbow will cause small tears in the tendon. Overtime this will lead to irritation and pain outside of the elbow. This injury is common to the athlete that playing tennis and using racquets sports as it name ‘’tennis elbow’’. Backhand is the common stroke to cause the tearing of the muscle. However repetitive motion such as twisting the wrist such as using a screwdriver can trigger this condition. Therefore, plumber and construction workers can develop this symptom. The symptoms for tennis elbow are weak grip, elbow pain that gradually worsen and pain radiating from the outside of the elbow when grip something or twisting the wrist. The way to control or treat tennis elbow are rest your arm for 2-3 weeks from doing the activity that can cause the symptom to occur and you can put some ice on your outer elbow 2-3 time a day. If your tennis elbow is due to sport activity you can check any sport equipment that can help to improve your technique and think about how often you have been playing and change your schedule of training. Maintain the strength of the muscle and avoid repetitive motion can prevent tennis elbow.
