Chemical Substances Safety

Chemicals are the biggest part of our daily lives whether at home, office, even in playground. Examples include toxic, corrosive, and various other substances. As long as we do the right precautions, these chemicals can be handled safely.

Substances or chemicals used in the workplace including fuel, paints, fertilizers, insect sprays and washing agent. However, chemicals that you use on cleaning facilities, laboratory chemicals, photocopies chemicals, cleaning fluid, oil/lubrication and chemical corrosion.

We are exposed to these chemicals in various ways such as;

· Inhalation: breathing in dusty areas, the fog and smell. For example, working with a bag of cement in the construction area without using a mask.

· Ingestion: Eating contaminated food. For example. eating at work where there is contamination of the air.

· Absorbed: The skin is exposed to chemicals. For example, the skin is exposed to oil or eye irritation.

· Injection: Forcing chemicals enter the body through a needle or a high-pressure equipment. For example syringes stuck or misuse of high-pressure sprayers.

You can protect yourself against the dangers of this chemical in the following manner;

· Read the label box, widths of safety materials and safe work instructions before handling the chemicals.

· Use personal protective equipment which may include specific chemical splash goggles, respirator, safety gloves, aprons, steel tip boots, safety glasses with side and the other closed. Ensure personal protective equipment is fitted properly and you trained to use it.

· Check first of all the AP before using it. Observe damage to the device such as the existence of cracks, the loss of the tools, torn and so forth. Make sure you have a respirator cartridge for the right chemicals for chemical hazards in particular. Replace cartridge if necessary;

· Wash your hands before eating, especially after you handle chemicals;

· Uninstall your clothing that has been contaminated in the workplace. If you wear it at home, you can endanger your family.

By knowing the dangers of chemicals and the prevention, then you can work safely and well protected from disease caused by exposure to chemical substances.
