protecting workers from heat stress in the workplace

Heat stress is a disease caused by over exposure to UV rays or the sun while doing jobs such as construction sites. Perform work on construction sites are often more vulnerable to heat stress. The work was also greater risk of heat stress. In addition,heat stress can also cause disease and can cause death and heat stroke can occur.Heat stroke is the most severe disease and dangerous. Besides that, among other diseases that can cause heat stress such as heat exhaustion, heat cramps and heat rash, Should also be avoided.





Risk factors that cause heat stress
• High temperature and humidity, direct sun exposure,
no breeze or wind

• Heavy physical labor

• No recent exposure to hot workplaces



To prevent heat stress, employer should are;-
  • Employer shall recommend a training to employees of leading to heat stress in order better to know more about heat stress in the workplace and how to Prevent heat stress
  • Employer shall provide cold water to employees working area to facilitate employeesto drink after tired doing the work. At least one pint of water per hour is needed.
  • Schedule frequent rest periods with
  • Water breaks in shaded or airconditioned areas.
  • Employer shall provide the ice pack to employees when they do work. This is because to avoid the collapse of employees at work
  • Employer shall ensure that the clothing worn by workers endothermic and not dark as dark-colored clothing will cause worker can easily collapse and suffered from muscle cramps
  • Employer must Consider protective clothing for employees 
  • Employer must routinely check workers who are at risk of heat stress due to protective clothing and high temperature.
  • Employer should be doing rotational job for workers to avoid workers exposed to heat stress. period of work employee must be in restricted than 8 hours or 6 hours to 4hours to prevent accidents occurring in the workplace.



Prevention of themselves


  • Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) like safety google to avoid the sunrays shine, safety helmet or a hat to avoid direct sun on the head







  • Avoid sugary drinks, alcohol or caffeine to prevent dehydration and collapse in the workplace. Must drink plenty of fluids. Drink often and before thirsty. Drink water every 15 - 20 minutes.

  • Must know how to recognize the early warning signs of heat stress and act quickly.

  •  Take frequent breaks in cool, shaded areas and remove personal protective equipment (PPE).
